what age should ds be expected to be able to walk beside me without a wrist strap?

He is 2.1 now and i wouldn't take it off him yet as he would be gone in a flash but what is the expected age to walk properly with me?

I think it really varies from child to child. My DS1 would have been under a bus if I'd tried this with him at 2.1 but my DS2 was fine.

my dd wa about 2/1/2
but ds i wouldnt really trust him until his is 3 maybe
