Mummy! Help! I'm falling out of bed!!!!

Yes...this is dd's new delaying tactic at bed time. I put her to bed as usual, and as I walk down the stairs she starts screaming that she is falling out of bed. So I have to turn back, and there she is, dangling out of bed! It has happened far too many times now to be an accident!

Any ideas to nip this in the bud? I try to put her back with as little fuss and attention as possible, but that is easier said than done.

how old is DD?

could you threaten her with going back into a cot/travel cot?

I would tell her to get back i then and carry on walking!

Agree with codswallop - "then you'll have to sleep on the floor" would be my response. BTW, my ds (3) regularly falls out of bed for real and either curls up on the floor, bless, or gets back into bed. He's never hurt himself.

My ds has started this recently. He's 5. He shouts "I fell out of bed, I can't get back in!" and hangs theatrically over the side. I just tell him to sort himself out, I'm not helping and he always does.

Thanks for the replies. Sorry, meant to say she is almost 3 (but tiny for her age). I have tried just walking away, but I think she gets herself stuck, eg legs on bed, hands on floor, and is too scared to just let herself fall (I know, her own fault for doing it in the first place...)
Also when I do just carry on walking she screams (yes..a screamer ), and she shares a room with ds.

I haven't got a cot anymore, but I think she would probably think it was great fun to sleep in one again!

On second thoughts, I think I will just let her scream! Ds can just hide his head under the covers if it gets too noisy...

She did it once tonight, and I put her back and told her in no uncertain terms that if she did it again, I would not be coming to rescue her. She has been quiet ever since. She can get one chance each night, and then thats it.

If you think she'd scared then show her how to get out of that position without picking her up
and without hurting herself. A sort of leg slide off the bed, DS1+2 do it all the time here off the sofa.

Then when she says it follow coddy's instructions. (would be similary to my reponse too)
