Nappy change from hell

My dd is 14 months old an the size of a 3 yr old I'm having serious problems changing her, she bites, kicks, screams and rolls about. I've tried everything to distract her nothing works, I'm going insane every nappy change is a battle that normally ends in a pooey mess! Pull ups are not an option shes figured out how to rip them off only normal tab nappies seem to stay on. I've tried changing her standing up and she's exactly the same. Please any tips or tricks would really help

My sympathies. I have a 12.5 month old son who also hates being changed, and at 24lb and 31 inches tall he is becoming too big and strong to just hold in place without hurting him.

The only way I am able to change him is while he is distracted. So at home I stand him by the coffee table with my laptop in front of him playing some loud obnoxious cartoon nursery rhyme, and while he is entranced with that I make haste to change him. And if I need to change him while we're out I let him steal something from my bag which he isn't usually allowed to have - my keys, phone, purse etc. Which occupies him for just long enough to sort him out.

Hi OP! Very familiar situation! This is my top childcare tip actually. Pop said child in the empty bath. They can't run away, any fallout is easily cleaned off because it's a washable surface and near to water for hand washing! I discovered this late on with mine. Wish I'd worked it out earlier!

I used a tip from someone on here - lie them at 90 degrees to you, and put your leg across their chest. The weight of it pins them down long enough to do the change.

This changing may we brought after hearing great reviews. My little one refused to lie still and now is a dream to change her in it.

gobig I've tried the standing with my kindle playing crap and stuff she's not allowed as soon as her trousers come down she throws a mega tantrum.

phala She's too strong to pin down anymore she's huge !
lozaa Same for the changing mat she's too big for it
butemily I don't have a bath only a shower and she's terrified of the noise

Yes I see. Don't know what to suggest then. Does bribery work? Could she eat some much loved snack while you get on with the business end? Or a fascinating toy that only comes out at change time? It's very difficult, nappy changing was the bane of my life. Hope you hit on something that works.

Well today's been a bit better I think its too hot for her to fight, I've given in an given her a toy hammer that she cracked my tooth with the other day ! Only thing to keep her happy ....
