"I don't LIKE you"

This is, I'm sure absolutely normal - right? Dd1, 2.7. to her dad mostly, me sometimes. Either "I don't LIKE you" or "I don't WANT you" several times a day. DH is getting really upset by it, Mostly I ignore her when she says it or 'well, i like you" but just reassure me this is a phase or tell me what I can do to turn her back in to my lovely little girl?! I'm mostly worried about DH who really does get hurt by her...

Totally normal, don't react other than to say well, I like you, my dd currently says "I'm NOT YOUR BEST FRIEND ANY MORE" accompanied by much foot stamping and scowling. Agree, you're doing the right thing.

My 2yo says he is going to put me in the bin, eat me for dinner or send me to prison

Ds1 told me the other day, that he wanted someone else to be his mummy, so normal, the trick, I think, is to not react at all, or smile sardonically

ds to me today in public toilet (in response to me upbraiding him for not keeping the door shut as i peed):

you are NOT my friend mummy. you are NOT MY FRIEND ANYMORE. Daddy is my friend, x and y and z and a and b and c and d and e are my friends

you are NOT IN MY FAMILY ANYMORE!!! (by the way neither i nor dh, nor anyone else that i can think of has ever said anything of this sort to ds in his life, or even thought it!).

the fact that he was telling me how much he loved me an hour later makes it less of a bitter pill obviously.

My ds once yelled 'I have no mummy' very loudly whuile walking down the street.

And my dd always says 'Mummy, you are a meany' every time she is told off.

Par for the course I reckon (I hope....)

DS 3 has just stopped saying this, but now says, nobody loves me and I am going to run away.

So close to asking if he wants his bags packing .

I think it's aorund this age that children start to "get" realtionships a bit.

DS (2.10) is always talking about who is in his family, and who his friends are at nursery.

He regulalrly winds DH up by telling him to go away, that he's not his friend etc.

DH falls for it very time and gets upset by it - I don;t - which means he does it loads more to DH 'cos he gets a reaction.

IMO it;s juts part of the testing boundaries / reactions type behaviour.

Oh, we've had this for months now. "I don't LIKE you. I just like Daddy and x and y and z"

5 minutes later I'm being cuddled like I've been away for a month!

Please tell your dh not to take it personally. She's 2 ffs, she doesn't really understand what she's saying, it's just another way she has found to express frustration and push boundaries and, frankly, to test your love for her. It's very reassuringly normal.

That just means you are doing your job right

my 5 yo says it all the time mainly i'm not your friend anymore and his new word is currently hate and he hates everything, my mum asked him if he wanted beans on toast for dinner the other day and he said "i'd rather die"! - been speding far too muchtime with is auntie i think!!

and as for my 15mth dd she has started everytime you tell her off or say no putting her down and storming off

My DD has also started this (5) - I don't love you, don't come anywhere near me etc etc. Quite upsetting sometimes but she soon gets over it. Try not to react too much.

yes accrding to super nanny etc it's just for attention etc

Mine (5yrs old) says "Nobody cares for me, you all shout at me all the time... I am sad now!" She usually looks at herself in the mirror & makes sad faces when she does this

DS: Another day...
ME: You said that yesterday, so... today is my day!
DS: No, I love daddy today
ME: Ok, I don't love you today either, today I'm going to love daddy
DS: NOOO, I AM going to love daddy today!
ME: I love daddy today!
DS: NO, I love daddy today! It's I love daddy day!
ME:NO, I love daddy today!
DS: NOOOOO, I looove daddy todaaaay!
ME: NO, I love daddy today!
[and soo on]

So today we didn't love each other and DH didn't even care about our love!
