My dd has quite a few imaginary friends. But one of them appears quite sinister.

My dd is nearly 3 and has a lively imagination and quite a few 'friends', one of them seems to be Spencer from Balamory who until now has been fine but today she has just told me that Spencer is a 'mummy-killer'. Where did that come from??

And last night dp put her on the naughty step for saying 'I'm going to kill you' repeatedly! Where is my angel getting these thoughts?

My 3yo is in the hall chanting "I DO believe in fairies" as I type this (eek, did you see the Torchwood episode with the fairies?!)!

I'd ignore it, she probably doesn't really know what it means. Either that or it means Spencer IS a mummy-killer

WigWamBam · 28/01/2007 11:16

Have you asked her what she means by "mummy-killer", and where she has heard it?

I've found with dd that she often mis-prounounces things, so I never assume that she really means what she's said.

I just asked her and she said she got it from the gingerbread man story. Is there a reference to killing in that story?

the gingerbread man gets eaten doesn't he? my son hates that story i think it should be banned personally

bran · 28/01/2007 11:26

Does she go to nursery? My ds (2.7)ocassionally has imaginary swords or guns and says 'I'm going to kill you'. I think he has picked it up from other kids at nursery, who probably picked it up from their older siblings. I just ignore it as I don't think he actually understands what he's saying.

Carmenere · 28/01/2007 11:45

Yes she is in a pre school, you could well be right. I will ignore it but ti is just so shocking to hear those things coming from dd's lovely little mind!

Well at 3 she does not know what kill actually means in the sense of the word we know it so it does just sound like she is repeating what she has heard another man say.

The gingerbread man is a really grim story actually do not like it at all.
