Transition to new bed

My toddler has just moved into her new bed (sides off the cotbed) and is very unsettled. It took me 1.5hrs to get her to bed tonight. After a lot of coaxing/begging, I had to sit on her bed, make her lie down, and wait until she finally went to bed. I feel awful in case she just isn't ready, but she's 3 in September and we've been talking about big girl beds for ages now. Any advice or tips please? She has new covers etc xx

Just ride it out, she will soon feel comfortable. Does she have a teddy? Could you get her to choose a second one? Could it be that she felt you were anxious about it? Took us a couple of weeks but he is fine now.

If she isn't ready is there any reason she can't stay in her cot for a bit longer and just wait until she wants to move to a cot? Unless there is a specific reason for you needing her cot I personally wouldn't rush. I was desperate to keep mine in their cots for as long as possible! X

I moved my dd to a bed at 2.5 because we needed the cot for ds, should have bought or borrowed a second cot, she went from the perfect sleeper and napper to an absolute nightmare, just when I had a newborn to cope with. I would always advise to stick with the cot as long as possible. .... planning to keep ds in it til he's ready to leave home

She can stay in her cot bed longer, but now I've started the transition I'm not sure whether it's a good idea to go back! I've made such a big deal of her 'new' bed! Do you think just go back to cot bed for a few more months until she asks for the bed back?

I would definitely go back to cot for longer. Don't worry about the fact you've made a big deal out of it. Id probably just put the sides on without making any fuss and just when she's ready try again (princess polly's new bed book is great). If she does question it then maybe just say that as she still likes her cot you've decided to keep her in it a bit longer and not make a big deal out of it. I really don't think she's going to want to be in a cot when she's 5!

I'd definitely turn back now. Does she still have a daytime nap?

Thanks both. No, she doesn't nap in the day. She went to bed more easily tonight but I can't lie down with her every night! Poor thing xx
