My ds just tried to get out the car while it was still moving!

Basically i was taking ds(5) back to school after lunch in the car. As we approached the school gates we saw our friends so he leaned over me to try and beep the horn( he was in the front seat because dd1 3 and dd2 1 were in their seats in the back). I hate the kids trying to touch anything while i am driving and told him to stop but he kept trying so i pushed his arm away.

Next thing his seat belt was off and i slowed right down to tell him to get it back on and he opened the door and was really trying to get out as i was pulling him back in! All of this was now at a very slow speed almost standstill but what if he had got out? He was screaming at me then it was like he suddenly realised what had just happened.

I already have real concerns about his behaviour and his impulsiveness but i came home in tears.

Surely this is not "normal" behaviour for a 5 year old?

put him in the back with child locks on ! Seriously it may just have been absent mindedness rather than a behavioural problem . Would he normally let himself out when you've stopped the car ?

you must have been absolutely terrified.

I think children of that age are impulsive and dont really think of the possible consequences of their actions.

But if he is always doing things that are potentially dangerous and not just on impulse it might be worth talking to your gp/health visitor about give them some examples they may be able to help.
