Negative negative negative

PLEASE HELP! I don't know what to do, and any suggestions would be great as I am clean out of ideas: So my DS1 is almost 5 and he is just sooooo negative about everything. "I hate...." seems to be his prefix. If he doesn't get his own way it is "the worst day ever!" I gave him an ice pop and he said "why isn't it longer?!" I said he would get two dots on his reward chart as he'd been especially helpful and he asked why there wasn't more. He has a real "glass half empty" attitude to almost everything at the moment and I find it really worrying. :(

Hopefully it's just a phase and he'll grow out of it! Personally I'd try and just be as positive about things as I could be and ignore his negative. 'Why isn't it longer?' I think it's just the right size. 'Why isn't it more?' Because 2 is just enough
