why can't my 11mo pull up?

My DS is 11 months and a week or so. He bum shuffles rather than crawls (although can commando crawl) and has good fine motor skills. If you stand him up against something he bears his weight independently and can even cruise the sofa a little bit. But he cannot pull himself up. He tries and just gets a bit of the way then sits down and cries. He's not been a particularly fast developer movement wise but surely he needs this step? Can it be a particular muscle problem?

And plenty don't crawl either - all my siblings bum shuffled then just got up one day at just over a year and walked. If he can cruise and sit himself down he's probably just not figured it out yet. As always, if you're worried about anything talk to your HV

DD didn't walk til 18 months wasn't interested. Keep practicing they all get there eventually.

My DD didn't crawl until she was 15 months old (did a sort of very slow commando crawl at 14 months), and then didn't walk independently until 21 months. She cruised from around 19 months, but the "pulling up" was definitely the last thing that she learned to do. Whilst frustrating and worrying, it was all within the realms of "normal" according to all experts!

He's fine. My DS is exactly the same age and has only just started pulling up (like in the past two days!) and has been crawling for about a week. Some of his peers of the same age are walking and others can only roll over - they all get there eventually. My DS has quite poor fine motor skills though and has only just learned to wave and clap, which I see 7 month olds doing! I just figure that they are all different and he'll get there.
