How old for peddling a trike?

That's it really, am looking for ways (non-expensive) to release some of my "threenagers" energy (2.9). We do the walking/football/park/soft play/searching for dragons in woods etc. But wondered when he would be able to peddle his trike himself? How old were yours?

Many thanks x

Mine were all older than that and could manage bikes before trikes - the peddle angle on lots of trikes seems really difficult - legs forward rather than down on a bike.

Swimming has always been the best way to get mine wonr out.

Dd was over 3 when she started pedalling her own trike - probably around three and a half.

ds is 3 next month & hasn't a scooby yet - although one of his mates could do this practically before they started walking
Scooter?

Hulababy · 21/01/2007 19:34

DD was over 3, and was able to pedal a proper bike before a trike.

Interesting. He does have a bike with stabalisers, may try that. Scooter is a good idea though. Thanks. According to my ds "Swimming is for Daddy not Mummy" so that's not a goer (at the mo!) Thanks for replies.

ds was just past his 3rd birthday when he started pedalling - both his proper bike and his trike at the same time

he was 2 and 4 months when he mastered the scooter though and could fairly whizz around on that...have you tried that? ours was and still is a HUGE hit

scooters are over-rated IMO

tassis · 21/01/2007 19:40

meant TRIKES are over-rated

scooters are great - sorry

LunarSea · 21/01/2007 19:41

20 months for a bike with stabilisers, about 24 months for the tricycle and the pedal tractor.

Am I the only one with an image of a miniature DelBoy standing in a street corner trying to sell his trike??

I know it was a peddle/pedal mistake, BernieBear but I can't get the image out of my mind. I'm not taking the p!ss honest

Back on topic, both DSs were rubbish at pedalling a trike. They were probably nearer 4 when they got it.
