My DD is 18 months tomorrow - she doesn't have many words she can say up please and ta and can do loads of animal/other noises: cow, chickens, dog, cat, crab(!) train. Her hearing is fine as she can hear me talk to her and will get toys/shoes etc if I ask her but will not even say mummy or daddy.

I'm having an irrational panic that she might be autistic as she prefers noises to actual communication- am I being ridiculous?

Perfectly normal. If you are anxious about autism google m-chat, but all those noises ARE communication.

Normal. My little girl learnt how to say 5 words at 18 months and they weren't mummy or daddy

Thanks! You know when you just get an idea in your head and can't shake it... Feel better now
