worried about development.

Hi, my lb will be 10 months on the 23rd of this month and he's NOT doing the following at all:
*Wave
*Clap
*Crawling
*Walking
*Sits himself up from laying on his back
He can SOMETIMES do the following:
*Stand alone. (he's done this about 3/4 times but it depends on how far apart his feet are and his mood)
*Pulls himself up on furniture (if he's put next to his cot he will pull himself up)
*Only walks when holding someone's hands
*Goes on all fours (he only does this on carpet and there's only 2 rooms he goes in that has carpet, the rest is laminated)
He CAN do the following:
*Sits very well unsupported
*Reaches out for toys
*Passes toys between each hand
*Roll over
*Laugh
*Smile
*Babbles
*Talks (dada, nana, baba)
I'm very worried as other babies seem to be doing more at this age :( please can someone help/advice or tell me about your experiences. I'm a ftm and not completely sure on what he should be doing x thank you x

Hes only 9 months old. I think it sounds like he is doing marvellous!

My dd is nearly 1 and only recently has started standing and furniture walking (but wont try walking when we are holding her)

Im a ftm too and my motto is "they will figure it all out in their own time" so i just play/read/cuddle/ laugh with her.

Its so hard not to compare though, isnt it? But try not to. Kids all develop in their own time. What all the development checklists are, are a guide to babies MIGHT be able to do by a certain age. Its not set in stone

relish the non-crawling as much as you can. DD follows me EVERYWHERE

A 9 month old walking is pretty damn unusual. He sounds fine.

He's doing more physically (like pulling up and walking with help) than my 12 month old. He sounds like he's doing really well

My dd didn't sit unsupported properly until 9 months, was walking by 14 months. Ds never crawled and went straight to walking at 12 months. They're all different, progress isn't always linear. It sounds like he's doing just fine.

My lo is 10 months and is nearly exactly the same as your lo. Two days ago he had his 9-12 month developmental assessment and they've said he's fine. She wasn't worried about him not crawling at all, in fact she said she thinks he might skip it altogether. She wasn't worried about clapping or waving either, he copies us in other things eg if we bang two things together he copies. He also understands basic commands like 'come to mama' (he puts his arms up).

I was worried for all the same reasons as you but now I've had the assessment I feel much better. I assume the lady I saw sees hundreds of babies and would recognise if something was not right woo trust her when she says he's 'normal' lol!

My son has sn, he wasn't doing any of that at 9 months . I have a lot of experience now and he sounds spot on !

It is so hard not to compare isn't it? And seriously annoying when other people do.

My DS is 10 months old, he's got a cousin just two days older than him who has been crawling, pulling up, walking, waving, clapping and saying recognizable words for months. DS still does none of that. I'm absolutely sick to death of being asked if DS is doing something yet, because of course the cousin is. It doesn't help that the cousin is incredibly sunny natured and smiles and giggles all the time and likes to be cuddled by all and sundry, whereas DS pretty much hates everyone except a chosen few

However, at his most recent well-baby check up our doctor said DS is still progressing and developing appropriately and those milestones are more guidelines of what the baby could be capable of (and what a parent can try to encourage/help them learn) rather than a checklist that you need to be marking off.

I keep telling myself that it doesn't matter when he does this stuff as long as he does it, and that when he and cousin are both starting school nobody will care anymore who walked or talked a few months earlier than the other!

All three of mine failed their 9 month checks as none were sitting unsupported or could bear weight at that age, all very able children now. None of them crawled til over a year nor walked till at least 17 months.

Hello all!

My son is quite good with his gross motor skills but he almost always ignores me when he is playing and he doesn't respond to his name 90% if the time and doesn't copy me like waving or clapping etc.

He also doesn't play with me. He is very interested with things objects but not me. He is 9.5 months old.

It's the ignoring me bit that pains me. Kind of when will he become more affectionate to me.

Any advice/success stories?
