Just walk already!!

Ds is almost 15 months. He has been cruising for a good 4 months now. He can walk holding one hand. He can stand with himself leaning ever so slightly against the sofa.

He could actually stand on his own and I'm pretty sure he could walk on his own but he just won't! The minute you let go he immediately sits down.

How can I encourage him?

My DS did the same. He let go and started walking two weeks ago, a week before turning 16 months. it happened during the weekend: DH and I sat down at the opposite sides of the room and asked him to bring us stuff and he started to walk to bring us his toys. I found that holding him under his arms rather than by his hand made him feel more secure. He really needed to feel 100% confident before starting to walk independently. I'm sure it will happen soon for your DS too!

My DS didn't walk until 18mo, nothing encouraged him. Sorry OP. Patience I'm afraid!

My dd didn't walk until 18 months but she never even tried first. One day she just got up and walked. Me and dh were like

But he's getting so whingy! Plus we have a wedding next month. He is supposed to be their page boy. I'm not involved in the wedding party. Dh is supposed to be giving bride away, Dd is flower girl and he's supposed to be page boy. Not sure how it's going to work if he's not waking

Have you tried the wooden spoon trick? You give him the spoon handle to walk with instead of your hand, and you hold the other end, then when he's not looking you let go of your end. I've never tried it but a friend said it works!

Hmmm I'll give that a go actually and see what he does.

I've occasionally let go of him and he's stood there for a moment with no problems before realising I've let go and then drops like a rock

My ds is exactly the same!!! He can do a few steps --looking like he's drank 20 pints- then gets down to crawl as it's quicker. Like your ds he's been doing this for months now he's happy walking up and down the house pushing a walker or holding hands but just will not let go and go walk on his own
