Horrible nappies and nappy rash

Dad (9 months) has had weird nappies the last few days. Numerous dirty nappies a day, more than usual, with very small amounts of loose, watery, mucousy greenish poo. I thought it was a bug at first, but no temperature, no sickness, eating and drinking normally. So I now think teething maybe? These nappies are playing havoc with her bum though. She's got the most awful nappy rash. It looks so painful. I've tried switching to water wipes, nappy off time, bepanthen, metanium, no cream.

Any tips? And if it is teething, is there any way I can help the nappies get back to normal? I feel like I'm doing nothing except clean up poo at the moment!

I'd be quite sure this is teething, it was identical when DS was that age.

For the nappy rash, I used cotton wool dipped in water for wiping, (or very sensitive wipes while out and about) then pat dry with clean towel, then use a hair dryer on the bum for a bit. It's really important the bum is dry as possible before cream and new nappy goes on.

A good squeeze of Bepanthen rubbed in well before new nappy.

A good soak in a warm bath before bed.

His nappy rash was sorted in no time, make sure you keep using a little Bepanthen to use as a preventative to stop nappy rash returning. I went back to Sudocrem after his poo was back to normal (a couple of weeks).

Some people recommend Mitanium for nappy rash but personally I found Bepanthen amazing.

For teething, Calgel teething gel was good, and you can get little sachets of teething powder at most chemists which DS loved.
Calpol if it's really bad at night.

My DD had some nasty nappies when she was teething which led to rashes. I did try a reasonable bit of nappy free time. We used Ashton and Parsons teething powders. I think know these helped stop the poo being as acidic so less irritating to the skin.

My DD had the same problem at about 7months, I figured it was probably weaning related in our case as no signs of illness. I read that yoghurt can help if a gastro bug has caused any inflammation (always a possible cause of lose stools) and banana is good for helping to firm things up......

I used mitanium for a few days to treat the rash and then switched to waitrose bottom butter to soothe and protects the skin (this stuff is amazing and smells so lovely!) Also the gross and frequent bowl movements lasted about a week, apparently it's fairly common for babys to have diarrhoea with no other symptoms for 5-7 days.

Another day, more stinky bum! I think the nappy off time is helping though, the rash seems to be clearing - it's drier and a bit smaller. I might try those teething powders and try to up the banana intake.

My older child breezed through teething, I don't think I was grateful enough at the time!
