Does your child boast a lot?

At what age can you expect kids to listen to / be interested in what someone else says, and not be too self-centred? Should I be teaching my daughter something?

My child is almost 4 yrs old and likes to chat to everyone she meets. She chats non stop.

Her chats usually involve telling the other person all the things she has at home (toys etc). She doesn't really ask the other person anything, or listen to what they say (but I know she is listening because she'll say something like "I have that too, and blah blah blah).

I find it so embarrassing. I don't talk to her about stuff she's got.

She's not even four years old - don't worry about it. They all think they're the centre of the universe at that age. I wouldn't even say she's "boasting", just talking about the narrow range of things that are important to her!

Thanks, that's reassuring! I haven't said anything to her obviously. I just cringe internally!!

Guide her if you're nearby....steer her to change the subject. That's part of teaching her social skills.
