I think my 2yr has OCD

Few examples, only sleeps on one area of his bed, Upset at soap being used ever, has to stand on a specific spot in bathroom each morning for teeth, when on change table towel needs to be draped over all edges (this seems especially important and he when I place him down he will scream until it's done), can only get in the car from a certain side, straps needing to be in a neat and exact position in pram and car seat and just lots of other crazy behaviours. He's wearing himself by getting so so worked up about things that seem so tribal.

Any experience? Should I contact the HV....

When he is having these episodes do I comply where i can or do I insist that whatever it is doesn't matter and distract?

Hmmmmm, well, I have a dd who has been assessed for OCD, it's a tricky thing to diagnose - they were trying to establish whether she was doing these rituals to stay safe, but on balance it was decided it was ASD. I think OCD will be inevitable for her, cahms said they may have to revisit in time.

This could also be described by ASD?? Thing is, at this age it could also be 'normal', it's difficult to tell, dd is 7 btw.

Tricky. I think you need to comply in a way that doesn't feed it or give attention, if you can. So for example, you know that he has to have it draped off all the edges, so make sure it is, but don't give any acknowledgment that it is.

Lots of behaviour like this is quite ritualistic at 2 - it's a control thing. That all does sound on the extreme end though. Can you keep a log of it?

At 2, those things don't seem unusual to me!

My DS needed all his cars lined up by colour and size before he could sleep. Would only drink from a certain cup. Etc.

Thanks, we've just had a day of it today. Ritual is defiantly the correct word. Other DC never been like this but his behaviour is to strange.

Just read a little on ASD, luckily he doesn't have any of those signs.

He interacts very well with friends, his sisters and us. Eye contact is fine, he has a great imagination etc.

Just the other stuff. How do you think I move forward just try and manage and see if it passes? X

I wouldn't worry yet. Lots of children like their routines at that age. Dd1 liked everything to be precisely the same at that age, things like same seat on the bus etc. It's a comfort thing. Now if you saw her you'd know we have no worries on that front!
