3yo not wanting his dirty nappy changed

My 3 year old is acting really oddly about poo.

Whenever he does a poo in his nappy he hides and won't let me change it. He then gets hysterical that I'm taking his poo away. He an scream and cry for half an hour!

He's currently sitting on the floor sobbing saying poo nappy, over and over again.

I've tried asking him why he wants his pooey nappy. He just says poo nappy.
I'll tell him it's in the bin but he replies with 'no'.

I've no idea what the issue us all about?!

I had this with my now 6 year old, he used to love sitting in a dirty nappy, I don't know why, but it seemed to bring him some sort of comfort.ONly potty training overcome this and he was quite late to the game, but I managed to crack it in a week, for both day and night. Their nappy soon becomes a distant memory when you introduce big boy undies.

I'm glad it's not just us!

We started toilet training but then his baby brother arrived 4 weeks early so it stopped abruptly!

Now things are settling we'll try again.

I think it was a wise decision to delay the potty training with a new born baby in the house. It's unsettling for everyone, so I doubt it would have worked, even if you did have the time and energy !,.He will get there, I remember panicking thinking my boy would be starting school nursery in nappies, but the beauty of being older was that he grasped the concept very quickly. Pick a week when you're going to do nothing but stay in the house and do potty training and I bet he cracks it.

I've heard that some children can feel like a part of them is being taken away when you flush their poo so this sounds similar.

There's an online book (free) called Mr Poo goes to Pooland, I haven't read it (!) but I think it's supposed to help with this.
