DS pushed me away!

So me and DH were away for the weekend (first time away from baby!) and left DS with MIL. When we went to pick him up he actually pushed me away and only wanted Dad. It was horrible! He wouldn't even look at me!
He is a very sociable chap (10 months) & never flinches when I leave & will happily go to anyone, even strangers. I've been at home with him & going back to work very soon.

Admittedly I worry that I don't do enough with him & am not entertaining enough but I rarely get anything back from him unlike DH who gets peals of laughter every night.

Am I doing anything wrong?

Don't worry OP, this is really really normal - both preferring Daddy (many toddlers go through this phase) and also pushing you away after you've left him for the first time. All mine did this - maybe he's a little bit cross with you for leaving, who knows, but that just shows that he loves you and misses you which is perfectly natural.

Yeah, perfectly normal.

DS is 10 months and used to regularly ignore me/deliberately look away from me/push me away when I tried to kiss him when I picked him up from nursery!

Apparently they really can get "annoyed" at you for leaving them and this is their way of showing you they noticed. I've been trying to take it as flattery, that I'm so important to him that I'm the one whose absence he notices - and protests about!

He's a bag of joy when I collect him these days though, so clearly he's made his peace with we leaving and now he's just pleased I've come back :)

The first time we left DD overnight (that she was old enough to notice) she wouldn't look at either of us when we got back! Totally in the huff . She got over it.
