10 month developmental check?

Hi

I am not sure if this is the right place to post but couldn't see a relevant section in 'Babies'.

I have had a call from a HV to book in my sons '10 month developmental check'. The visit is this coming Monday, three weeks before his 1st birthday.

My friend had a letter and questionnaire through the post for her DS 12 month check.

Is mine a different thing? DS was premature, NICU followed up for 6 weeks then one HV visit and that was it, no consultant care - is this why or is it the same as online I have found checks for 9-12 month olds.

I am confused.

It sounds to me like it's the 1 year check. Perhaps the HV has said 10 months because she is recognising he was early and so may not be at the 1 year level yet developmentally.

Different areas do checks at different times, which is why you've seen different checks online, but assuming your friend is in the same area then it sounds like your area does a check at 1 year.

If it is the 1 yr check, you can ask to delay the check until your son is 1 year corrected age if you prefer. IMO it's more useful that way as they can more accurately compare him with the "average 1 year old". I did this with both my prems.

I could be completely wrong though!! Best thing is to call the HVs and ask for clarification

He was 6w early but apart from his hair and teeth he is about the same as his little friends who were born when he should have been. He is furniture walking, can feed himself and wave goodbye and shake his head 'no' when you ask him to.
I dont think he is behind developmentally but then I wouldn't really have a clue as he is my first and Im no expert!

No, it depends where you live - is also 10 month check here.

In my area it's the "when we have time to get to you check"! Ds's 9-12 month check became his 13 month check and his 2 year one became a 27 month one.
