7 year old...lying..please help

hi, my 7 year old dd has been to school today and told a huge lie to her teacher....apparently my dd was crying...sobbing with tears too, teacher approached her and my dd told her that grandma had died...teacher very sympathetic etc.

not spoken to teacher but a mother has phoned me tonight to offer sympathy as her dd came home from school upset as my dd was totally devastated.

gradma has died.....2 years ago!!!!!!

have spoken to dd and she admitted it and said she just wanted to come home. she did this a few weeks ago but pretended she was ill....again major tears.

drama classes have definatly paid off!!

do i speak to teacher or what do i do?
also why is this happening?

Is there a reason she doesn't want to be at school maybe? Problems with friendship groups or find school work difficult or something?

she seems ok at school, she doesnt say much to be honest.....seems happy.
on parents evening teacher said she was a dolly day dream, but i knew that already.

she is very much an activity girl....pe, dance, drama etc being her best subjects......maths etc, hates it.

friends wise she is a popular girl, plenty of mates, they argue, but i think thats the norm at seven, well hope so!!

she does seem to ask loads of questions about death, what happens, why, when am i going to die, why cant they come back etc.

my biggest bug bare is lies....so am i over reacting as it something i hate?

think teacher needs to know the truth as its a little unfair on teacher.

I'm not sure most seven year olds could 'act' that well. She sounds genuinely very upset about something tbh, but I obviously don't know what. Could you ignore the lying temporarily and ask what really made her cry?

tried to have a chat about why she wanted to come home to mummy....she says she just misses me and wanted to be with me....bless!

Agree that it sounds unusually 'effective' and as if there might be something upsetting your dd, that she is deflecting. Perhaps if you speak with the teacher, then you could take that line, putting the record straight but asking for her help in keeping an eye on her to find out what is really causing the problem.

think i will discuss with teacher asap, we need to understand dd.
