ruff & tumble/ruff play - is it just a phase? is it normal?

DS1 loves to ruff and tumble, not just with his Dad, but anyone. He even smacked his grandma on the backside the other day and thought it was hilarious. Of course, I told him off but he seems to think its highly amusing to sneak up on you and give you a little pinch or slap.

I noticed he also tries ruf and tumbling with the older boys at school and it is really grating on everyones nerves. I am hoping he will grow out of it sooner or later.

I asked him not to do it and he understands that its not really right but he told me he can't help it. When he's coming at me, I try saying to him to resist the urge to do it but he goes right on ahead and does it anyway, sometimes he bloody hurts!

Is this normal, will and when will he grow out of it, its like he's got a little monster inside him that wants to get out!!

Hi Jobean, no real advice or experience to share but I didn't want you to think you're on your own. I've seen plenty of small boys who do what you say, even with the best, most creative, loving, parenting. His dad might have been the same when he was little? I guess he's grown out of it? They just have to learn I guess. Good luck with him.
