Overtired baby, extremely tired mummy

I'm at my wits end.

Ds was a dream, sleep wise. He always napped well, and slept from 8pm to 8am, waking for a bottle 11ish initially, and then dropping that.

Mind you, we adapted She Who Must Not Be Named's routine for him, as he was bottle fed, and it worked a treat.

We 'attempted' it with dd, who is four and a half months, and it didn't work. We've tried it again a few times, to no avail. Not entirely sure if it's because she's breastfed and he was bottlefed?

It's got to the stage now where I'm crying for her to be in a routine but it's going nowhere. She feeds roughly every 3 hours during the day, maybe more, I do have a tendency to think every cry is hunger though.
We attempt to put her to bed at 8pm but after around 40min she wakes up and cries and grizzles until 10. I then feed her (with her messing around) for anything up to an hour and a half, her usually either falling asleep or showing inclination to, and we put her to bed. She's started crying through the night so dh is trying controlled crying with her (I don't really agree I think she's too young) which isn't really working as she gets more worked up, not less. Either way, she can go without food until 6/7ish, if it's 6 or so, she'll be trying to sleep but unsettleable, and crying. I think it's overtired from not sleeping early enough the night before.

Then most mornings she'll sleep straightaway from feeding another couple of hours.

Naps for the rest of the day tend to be poor....

How do I sort this out?

Lunavix, I cannot offer any advice but just sympathy. I've had a similar experience to yours except that I breastfed both my babies. DS1 (now 2.5) has always been a very settled angel child (most of the time) whilst my daughter (10 months) is somewhat more spirited. DD did seem to settle more into a routine from around 6 months but is still quite erratic compared to her brother.
