what age, grobags to duvets, cots to beds?

My dd is 20mths and has been in grobags since she was about 4mths. I'm expecting to put her into a bed sometime over the next year but wondered whether I should get her used to a duvet whilst she is still in a cot, or keep her in grobags when she is in a cot (at least she can't climb out wearing them) and then she'll have a duvet when she goes into a grown up bed, or even have her in grobags when she's in a bed - although that could be difficult as I doubt she could get back in if she got out. I need to decide soon as she's growing out of her grobags so either I need to buy the next size up grobag or a cot duvet. Most friends have said keep her in a cot as long as possible as its easier. I'd rather she had to get used to a duvet in the summer as at least if she kicks it off she won't get too cold. What did everyone else do?

Ooh good question, I was wondering the same thing

I got ds used to a duvet before putting him in a bed. he went into a bed at 22 months and it's been ok.

he has 2 blankets that are tucked right under the matress and the quit on top.

Our DS is now 26 mths and went into a bed at 24 months. He's still in a grobag though because he wriggles around so much that I was worried he would get cold if he just had a duvet which he would wriggle out of. I'm going to give him a duvet in the spring/summer when it won't matter so much. Luckily he never tries to get out of bed, not even in the morning, as I was a bit worried about him trying to get up and walk in his grobag and tripping over.

LittlemamaT, thats what i was worried about to, and her wriggling out of the duvet and getting cold. Thanks for the advice, anyone else got experience.

Ds1 was 18 months when he went out of the grobag and he also went into a bed with a duvet.
I had bunkbeds and the boys room was quite cramped with ds1's bed and ds2's cot bed. He was perfectly fine, I just tucked the duvet in tightly down one side he never went under it and he is going to be 3yrs next month . He still kicks the covers off, I go in and cover him but he kicks them off again. He does that when he is in bed with dp and me in the mornings and we are really shivering and he is just fine.
I think if the boys had a larger room I would have kept him in his cot bed for another 6 months.
He can get out of the bed easily but about a week before he went into a bed, he would climb over the cot bars anyway. So I would rather him climb out of the bed that go over the top of the cotbed and probably do himself more harm.

Both of mine moved into a bed (with a duvet) at around 18 months. They were quite high beds, so neither of them tried to get out of them until we got them up in the morning (initially).

Just wanted to say I had the same problem. We have just put our dd 2.4 in a bed at Christmas. She also has always slept in a grobag. We have left her in her grobag in her new big girl bed and touch wood, have had no problem at all with the transition. I don't know whether this is because she is still in her familiar grobag or not. She has always been a good sleeper and goes straight to sleep and doesn't try to climb out and also stays in her bed in the morning until I go and get her, as she always did in her cot. She also never tried to climb out her cot, so this may have contributed to the fact she also stays in her bed. Anyway, as someone else said, I plan to switch to a sheet/blanket once the weather gets warmer adn she will have grown out of her grobag, and get her a new duvet for next winter.

Had ds in a grobag from about 4/5 mths and changed him into a bed when he was 18mths. It was at this point we changed from grobag to duvet. He loved his grobags but likes his duvet even more!! They get used to the duvets after a while and finding them to put back on. We also used a bed guard for a transition period whilst he got used to the bed environment. Funny cause it doesn't seem like that long ago that we made the transition (9 mths) but I can't imagine him being in a cot now!! Its up to you. If your dd looks like she could cope with a bed, I'd say do it now or maybe wait till early spring.
