sneezing when sunlight hits face, anyone?

My DS is 8mo3wks old and every time the sun hits his face he sneezes. He has been doing this since he was born. I notice this particularly when he is in his car seat and when the sunlight is direct. Has anyone else seen this phenomena? and if so do they gro out of it?

Yes, they all do it and they do grow out of it.

lemonaid · 07/01/2007 22:09

Well, my DH still does it... and as a general phenomenon that lots of people do it's the subject of the first question in this year's New Scientist questions-and-answers book Why DOn't Penguins' Feet Freeze? So perfectly normal (although I forget now what the scientific background actually is)

Paddlechick666 · 07/01/2007 22:11

if i feel a sneeze coming but just out of reach i look at the sun or a bright light.

it generally results in a really good sneeze!

hi lemonaid, hope all's well

I found something called the ACHOO syndrome

i always sneeze in the sun.

DaisyMOO · 07/01/2007 23:54

I was reading about this in 'why don't penguins' feet freeze' about 2 hours ago. Can't remember what it said though, other than that it is genetic!

Linnet · 07/01/2007 23:55

this happens to me as well

TheArmadillo · 07/01/2007 23:55

it is something that affects a certain portion of the population according to QI.

I know it happens to me and I hate sneezing.

Biglips · 07/01/2007 23:56

I do it too.

Greensleeves · 08/01/2007 00:05

it's the only pleasurable sensation I get these days

TheArmadillo · 08/01/2007 00:07

an exboyfriend once told me that for women an orgasm was just like sneezing.

Obviously I'm not sneezing right.

I really do hate though - it makes me so wound up and angry (don't care about other people sneezing)

there is nothing worst than a sneezing going before you get to sneeze I love sneezin too. You do all the stupid AHHH AHHH AHHHHHHHHHHH without the chooooooo bit

Yes i still sneeze in the sunshine too

ParanoidAndroid · 08/01/2007 12:50

Sorry to say but because your DS does this (as does a percentage of the population) he won't be allowed to fly jet planes in the RAF!!! It's one of the first tests they do apparently.

(Or else that is an urban myth and I've been suckered )

throckenholt · 08/01/2007 13:10

I always sneeze in bright sunshine - bit of a b*gger when drving actually.

I don't think any of my family do, or any of my kids.

mawbroon · 08/01/2007 13:52

DH, DS and I all do this with the sun. DH is terrible with sneezing. Mustard that's a bit too hot, squeezing a spot anywhere near his nose, DS grabbing him by the nose etc etc all these things will set him off on a sneezing fit with well over a hundred sneezes which is pretty annoying for those who have to listen to it, but incredibly annoying for him. I think poor DS has inherited this as he has sneezed every day since he was born!!
