Hi fw,

I actually haven't attended any classes. Read a few books, bookmarked some handy web sites, and just started with whatever words seemed to interest my dd. I show her a sign, and she will try and copy/modify it. Here are some old threads you can check out.

I do music for little ones (and I'm not advertising) but I do know Makaton Sign Language because I work with SN kids. If amyone wants to borrow my list of signs you are welcome. You can photocopy them and send them back. Don't fall for all those really expensive babysign classes (they do teach signs but they are a mishmash of Makaton and BSL) and in my opinion are a rip off) Apologies if anyone is doing the "franchise of ..............(not sure if i can say the name) but it's very expensive and IMO not worth the dosh. If you are interested, it worked really well with my very frustrated 2 year old who changed overnight from being a screaming wreck into a child who could ask for what he wanted. Mind you, he still hit the floor and created when I signed (and said, which is really important!) "NOOOO!". It really helped him realise that he could ask for things although he couldn't say the word, without just pointing and screaming.
