2 year old inappropriate comment. Help!

I may be overreacting and worrying about nothing but some advice/thoughts would be appreciated.

This morning my 2 year old was sat naked on my bed after his bath. I was sorting his clothes for the day and noticed he was staring at his penis and then started poking it and laughing. He's never paid any attention to it whatsoever before and I didntvreallyvthijk much of it but then he said "I want to lick it" I asked him what he said and he repeated it clearly. I asked him who says that which I always do if he says something I've not heard him say before and he didn't say anything so I kept asking but then he started talking about colouring in and the hulk. He hasn't mentioned it again and later on said he wanted to lick his toes and knees so maybe it's just a silly thing he's going through but it's left me feeling really uncomfortable. I don't know why he'd put the 2 together? Has anyone else had any experience of anything like this?

I'd assume it was innocent. Haven't had this exact experience but my two year old loves his penis so a comment like this wouldn't surprise me.

My two yr old is obsessed with licking everything at the moment - she wanted to lick her sister's bottom in the bath. I think on it's own as a stand alone comment I wouldn't be too concerned.

Oh my goodness, he is 2! You wouldn't freak out if he said he wanted to lick his elbow - to him it's just another part of his body and certainly doesn't hold any connotations for him. They just get interested as it's not a part of their body they see regularly.

I'm not really sure what you are worried about?

If it left you feeling uncomfortable then I think you need to try and understand a toddlers mind a bit better and not put an adult spin on it - he isn't a mini adult!

I know he isn't a mini adult but thank you for confirming that! It didn't bother me until my partner told his parents and their comments of "well he must have heard or seen it somewhere" "you should speak to his nursery about this" and others made me over think it but thanks for your lack of support. It must be amazing to understand a toddlers mind. Congrats on that

Dd2 is 4 and very into licking - she's weird and 4 and I think no more of it.

I remember my dc saying similar. He definitely hadn't 'got it from somewhere' - he just wanted to lick it. They don't have the same understanding as adults. It's perfectly innocent.

I don't understand a toddlers mind - nobody really does, hence why they come out with comments like that! I just meant that sometimes things they say need to be taken with a pinch of salt and not over-thought. Sorry if my comments came across as condescending - it wasn't meant like that at all but reading it back it does sound pretty b*tchy! I was just surprised at how much you seemed to be over thinking an innocent comment but can understand that if your partners parents were making comments it would make you worry.

It didn't bother you until someone else mentioned it? Really? That's not what you said in your op.

My Ds was obsessed his bits. He went through a stage of being amazed if you rubbed it got bigger. One day he spilt something on his pjs bottoms so took them off and passed him a crochet blanket while I got more trousers.

When I came down he was poking it through a hole in blanket and said laughing at it. He was very impressed with it.

He is 5 the obsession has gone.

You say he wants to lick other body parts. He has no idea it's seen, by adults, as anything different to any other body parts.

What response were you expecting OP ? of course people were going to point out that he sees things differently to adults, that's why he said it. Because he doesn't think the same as us. No toddler does. You asked for advice and were given it.

My DS said the exact thing once OP. It wasn't anything to worry about, although I remember being a little bit at the time!
