My DD has just turned 6 months and used to go to sleep at night on her own (after weeks of gentle coaxing) but 3 weeks ago started SCREAMING when I put her down and will now only be cuddled to sleep. She is waking 5 or more times a night (previously dream feed and once early hours) and whether I feed or not I need to take her into bed with me until she is really asleep before I can put her down - then she might wake 1/2 hour later.
Am thinking could be weaning wind or teething??? But funny thing is will still sometimes get herself off to sleep for daytime naps.
Now spend all evening and night poised to make the dash to the cot, so bit edgy and sleepy. Yawn.

know that exact feeling!! ds is nearly 6 months and last past week he does not go to sleep until 23.30 and he'll keep sleeping and waking before that!!!

he had a very good routine for 2 months and would have 1 dream feed in the middle of the night.

he has a nasty cold right now which probably is a factor and the way he is pooing i think he probably is teething too!!

It feels like taking a massive step backwards - bit like having a newborn again! Asked HV for advice, and was told to 'toughen up' and let her cry. She sounded horrified when I told her I pick DD up when she cries and even more horrified when I said I feed her!

Pick her up?? Feed her??? surely that is tantamount to microwaving a kitten! Tell your HV to bog off - she sounds useless! hope things improve for you soon

sleepyjo, ds2 has been appalling for about 3 or 4 months - like you say, waking 5 or 6 times in the night. He has just turned a corner, and is tending to wake only once, as we go to bed. I put it down to teething, or possibly some sort of evening colic. It's no coincidence imo that one of his canines popped through the day he settled!

I have heard canines are the worst! I'm sure teething is part of problem as upper gum is bulging! Thanks for the comments. I am on cloud nine today as DD slept from 10.30 pm to 6.30 am last night! Been experimenting with what I feed her, and keeping it really bland, so wind has improved. Also have had her in her own room for past 3 nights ( bit of a wrench and I can't sleep cos I miss her!) and I have heard her on monitor wake and grizzle a couple of times, but go back to sleep on her own! So much for HV advice, and so glad I took no notice! Fingers crossed for tonight.
