My DS is 8 mo and he seems to have started crawling but he does it backwards. Has this happened with anyone else's? How do I encourage him to do it moving forwards?

He'll go forwards eventually lol!

Don't fret. Lots of babies start backwards. Some never crawl forwards.

yes, it's normal, bit weird but normal. I wouldn't worry about encouraging him to move forwards, it'll come when he's ready, but if you are really bothered, stick a nice toy just out of his reach in front of him

ds did this for about one or two weeks and my mum reassured us that it was not that unusual so we were able to enjoy watching him do this peculiar (to us) thing without worrying to much that he would grow up unable to walk forwards!.

yes, my dd, friends ds, niece and lots of friends and famileis kiddies do the same
they get the hang then think...oooh i can go this way now

TheArmadillo · 28/12/2006 20:31

easier to go backwards - ds always used to look shocked that he was getting further and further away from what he wanted .

Perfectly normal

Ds crawled backwards for about a week before going forwards. His cousin went backwards for about a month. They get there eventually!!

Ahhhh...sigh of relief. Thanks all for the reassurances! Have a happy new year.
