my son can only say ma, da and ta oh and ga.
he is 17months old is this ok or should he realisticaly be able to talk more

Sounds just like my neighbours' son! And the oldest son of one of my friends didn't start talking until he was two, so I wouldn't have thought there is much to worry about... There is a thread somewhere about setting up a support website for late speakers, as it were, if you're really worried (there were 3 yo children who didn't speak mentioned on it), but I'm afraid I don't know how to search for it.

Well, he's learning. Mine isn't walking yet - not yet 11 mo - but I imagine they all go through different stages. Sorry if I'm being ignorant, but is there a particular significance attached to walking on tiptoes?

Does he walk on tiptoes all the time or just sometimes ? If it is all the time and he seems unable to walk with his feet flat then it would be an idea to get that checked out. I was told by a paed that if a child could say 6 things by 18 months then they weren't worried and was warned that DS would be likely to take a little longer to speak being a boy and a second child.

My advice would be to see your gp, if there isn't a problem then your mind is at rest and if there is a problem then the sooner you see a specialist in the area the better.....please don't sit worrying about things. Best wishes

he seems to walk on his toes around 80 per cent of the time, more so with his left foot than right. we went for a hearing test today and it turns out he is 60 per cent deaf:0 in his right ear and 30 per cent in his left ear. which explains the lack of communication skills.
