Help - my 7 year old has threatened another child

My DS has lots of problems with anxiety/panic attacks etc and really struggles at school. He's currently undergoing assessment for autism too - he has many challenging behaviours. School are generally very supportive and have put some things in place to make things a bit easier for him.

I have just received a message from the mum of a girl in his class to let me know that he had threatened to kill her with a knife! She was obviously very upset about it but didn't tell the teacher.
I've spoken to him and he's denying it though he did say she was calling him names so I think he probably has said it. I don't for one minute think he would ever do anything like that.

Now I just don't know what else to do - should I tell the school? I'm terrified he'll be excluded or something.

Please help!

School really need to know so they can continue to support him and have the full picture as to how to do that.
