5 month old won't smile at me anymore

That about sums it up - for the last couple of days my DS has stopped smiling at me - he has huge smiles for DH, other people etc but when I smile at him, he just looks at me - is this normal? I know he is too young to be doing it deliberately so I just wondered why he has stopped.

It is making me very sad (though DH thinks it is hilarious!)

Does he see DH alot less than you? DS is always smiling at DH because its a "new" face... dont worry hun xXx

Dont worry, he is probably busy studying your face and so doesnt smile or something, just relax it will come back, try tickling if your really worried!

Thanks for the reassurance - yes he does see DH a lot less as he is usually away most of the week but is now home for a couple of weeks.

Tried tickling but he is not ticklish and it doesn't generally get him giggling normally.

I don't know whether it is relevant but both me and DS have had bad colds so my voice has changed and I assume he has lost his sense of smell (as I have - v useful for changing dirty nappies ) - not sure if that would make a difference.

Yes - perhaps hes smiling at your DHs funny odour

My dd is doing exactly the same at the moment, and it is very disheartening when you are the one doing all the work. I think like others have said, she is just used to seeing me all the time, and almost sees me as part of her. Or maybe I'm not as funny looking as her dad! Not any help but just sharing your experience.

Lauren - thanks for letting me know that I am not the only one in this situation - it is very disheartening but I keep perservering. However, he also did the stare at MIL yesterday so I am not the only one - though she deserves it
