Toilet training help please!!

DS is 3 1/2 and was potty trained last may. Except I don't think he's there yet. He NEVER asks for a wee until he's started going. I have to take him at regular intervals (ie before we leave the house), sometimes he argues it sometimes he doesn't. We have probably a couple of accidents a month. I'm terrified that when he starts school in September that teachers won't take / remind him regularly.

Also, he saves his poo for his night time nappy. He will ask to go on the toilet if he's desperate (and is happy doing it) but is is not very often so I can't teach him to wipe himself incase he goes at school (although he's NEVER been at nursery since nappies have gone).

I tried taking his night time nappy last night (swapping with a pull up initially) and he went crazy. Crying and taking it off rather than a full on tantrum. I don't think he realised he can poo in it. But I don't want him to know really.

Any advice?

I'm sorry I don't have much advice, as I'm not that knowledgeable on child development as such. My 10 year old DD had problems though a bit similar to what you describe, was dry as far as peeing from about 3 / 3.5 but she would poo little bits numerous times during the day (not night though) and hated 'big girl pants' as well, she would cry for pull ups or nappies , she had to wear pants to nursery though and the soiling did cause problems there. She's fine now though.

I hope it's just a stage your DS is going through and hope someone can advise soon x

My dd had a phobia of doing a poo on the toilet. She did the same-would wait until bedtime and soil her nappy. She was around 3.5 when she first is a poo on the toilet. I put a tube of smarties on the back of the loo and told her she gets 2 smarties for a poo! I sat with her and reassured as much as possible. When she did her first poo she never had the fear again!

Thank you for your reassurance about getting it eventually. Nursery reckon it's quite common in boys.
