10 weeks old smiles

Hi all,

I'm just wondering how much your baby/child smiled at 10 weeks old? My DD didn't have a definitive big 'first' smile, instead it's built up gradually since 5 weeks. She smiles daily but we still can have to work for them - it's always on her terms! She does a mixture of grins and big smiles, either at us talking to her or making funny faces or at her toys. She doesn't really smile on demand yet but she definitely smiles socially and does everything else expected of her age, good eye contact and 'talks' to us and and her toys a lot.

I went to a group yesterday where some of the babies seemed to smile a lot easier and it really worried me. I suppose as long as she is smiling and doing everything else that I don't need to worry? I've just read so much about babies smiling a lot at this age.

It's fine What you describe sounds perfectly normal.

Babies are mini people, they have different personalities. My baby daughter is a big smiler - she'll grin at anyone - but many of my friends have babies who are a bit more discerning. It's all good.

I was going to say that smiling is one of those things that gets made a big deal of, especially in baby groups and out and about, because it's engaging and an easy thing to coo over.

Sounds normal. As eek says - babies are mini people - could you imagine having to smile all day every day on demand x my son is 11 weeks and has been fairly similar cant stop him laughing now though whereas my DD6 laughed/smiled at that age even if you did the most inane things - like breathe... Xx
