ds is 6 months on xmas eve and when i put him on his front he puts his bum in the air and bends his legs so he is on his knees, but he just doesn't know what to do with his arms. it's like his back end so to speak is ready to crawl but his front end is just as if he were lying on his tummy. have any of your dc done this too (i'm sure they probably have!) and how long was it before they were properly crawling?

Grapefruit

ds1 was just the reverse. He did this upper body army crawl at first. I think it was 3 or 4 weeks of that before he moved on to a proper crawl.

Have seen other babies do this. I think it's fairly common. He'll probably start doing push-ups soon to build strength in his arms. Then he'll rock and will be off. My DS sleeps in that position - head on the mattress, bum in the air! He slithered from about 8 months, crawled 'properly' 6 weeks later then just got up and walked.

oh, and to the OP... DS did this for about 3 weeks before crawling. Beware as sometimes the roley-poley over!

he doesnt really like rolling. he only really decided he liked tummy time about 6 weeks ago - used to scream whenever i put him on the floor! he can roll onto his side from back to front and has been able to since 5 weeks but doesnt do it very often and since 19 weeks has been able to roll from front to back but again doesn't do it very often. he's just not very "roley" ironically my mum has just bought him a roley mo toy!

DS didnt mean to roll over when he tried to crawl like that, he just went head over heels!
