playroom for three under 5.

We have a conservatory for our kids, a playroom.

Thing is, they're not ever wanting to play there. Instead they want to be played with. Which is nice but in times when adults need to do dinner, or wee, or chores, or just have five minutes. It's nice to know they have a playroom. But they just whinge and say they don't want to play there. They will ask things of me, or pull stuff out of cupboards, make mess (kids I know ) but around the house.

How can we make it more appealing for all ages. And to stop the bickering!

Mine have been similar. The 4yo (DD2) is only just coming out of it and will play alone for a little while, e.g puzzles, sylvanians etc.

It's their age.

We made it more appealing by taking the toys out of it! Storage was elsewhere in the house and they take a box (e.g. duplo) in there to play with. That stops them opening the cupboards and pulling everything out!

Developmentally, they are so tiny still, they just want to be around you.

They are young let them play in the living room where you are. It won't be long until they don't want to play with you. And I say this as someone who finds playing with kids hideously tedious at times.

My DC (5yo and 4yo) love their playroom. It's like a nursery, they've got so many toys.

They don't stay there more than 5 minutes on their own usually and they are generally considered very independent. I've got a desk in there so I can get work done.
