girls friendships

Any advice welcomed please. My dd in year 6 says she is currently being ignored by her best friend in favour of the cool girls in the year. These are the girls who have "boyfriends" (whatever that is in year 6) and who are in the cool dance team. I am after advice that I can give her to deal with this. I have told her to play with her other friends and bot chase this girl but she is really upset by the whole thing and becoming withdrawn.

I experienced something similar with my DS - similar because I've heard girls can get a bit more overtly emotional about BFFs. DS's BFs parents are going through a divorce, and BF is not accessible as each parent attempts to prove she/he is the one that spends the most time with the children.

So, what to do, what to do ...? I set up a few playdates with auxillary friends. They had a great time together playing Halo Reach, carving pumpkins, kicking the football around. It got his mind off it. I think he got perspective that a good time could still be had. But, kids can be quite loyal, and this may be only a temporary distraction until divorcing parents get their act together.

I think for a girl, some distractions to get her mind off it might be some Mum/DD outings. Advice about what to tell her, tho - that's a tough one.

when my dd was this age she wanted a jacket that was a too expensive for my budget, but we worked it out and she got it. What a revelation! That jacket opened the door to being accepted by the in group. Not sure if she actually knew that before hand. So how about a shopping expedition to the cool stores and see if that will wave the magic wand.

What's things like now SusieR? Just found your post my DD in year 6 is going through a similar thing. She had one BF who was lovely but recently her BF has started to get invitations from the popular click and my DD hasn't. My DD is quiet young for her age and starting to feel she is getting left behind by her peers most of whom seem 10/11 going on 18 some with Michael Korrs handbags, wearing makeup on a weekend and seem to have their iPads in their rooms and are posting things online close to midnight most nights.
