The Best Friends' Guide to Babies - just for the humour which you will need!
Bedtiming is about sleep but also a really good guide to emotional development.

"Your Baby and Child" by Penelope Leach is THE classic guide to all things 'baby, toddler and child'.

This book is really great - most baby books are all about the babY, whereas this one focuses on motherhood, what it means and ways of coping.
