DS keeps standing in front of the TV - how bad is this?

DS is 15 months and whenever we put on a DVD for him, prob only once a day about 4pm, he'll sit for about two mins and then he's up and standing right up against the screen. We try and put him back on the floor a decent distance from teh screen but he gets right back up there! Apart from the constant sticky handprints all over the tv, how bad is this for his eyes? Are we giong to have to cancel all TV completely?

My DS did this at about this age- I turned it off when he got too close & called him back & turned it back on. It didn't take long for him to get the message

I've put a box of toys in front of the screen. He can now move it out of the way, but fortunately generally can't be bothered.

does he also put his hand in his pocket and jangle change and turn it off if he leaves the room and change the channel when he comes in?

Its easy with the first child, you just give them a warning when they get too close and then turn the telly off. I found it hard with my second child because the older one was trying to watch too. She solved it by bellowing at her little brother whenever he obstructed her view.

I don't know how bad it is for your eyes - try watching telly for half an hour, two inches from the screen, and see how you feel afterwards!

both my dd's do this (2.10 and 14mths).
i am forever saying "come away or i will turn it off"
easy with dd1 - i just count to 3 and before i get to 3 she is back on the sofa.
dd2 is more tricky, as you say, because dd1 is watching.
i just pick her up and put her on the sofa.
