18mo hitting self on head?!

Hi ladies,

My 18mo DD has started to hit herself on the head/in the face in frustration (e.g. When she asks for a rice cake but doesn't get one (or doesn't get one IMMEDIATELY), when she doesn't want to get in the pushchair etc...

I know the frustration thing will be par for the course at this age, but has anyone else's DC done the head whacking thing?! Really hoping this one will pass soon!!

My 18 month ds will bang his head on the floor/wall under the same circumstances. I initially took him to the Dr to check he didn't have an ear infection, and the Dr said it's very common around this age, and that they'll grow out of it.
When ds does it we don't rush to stop him or say anything, we just try to quickly distract him with a toy or something, so that he doesn't learn that the behaviour gets lots of attention. He does it a lot less now

Thanks so much curls, glad to hear it's common at this age!! That sounds like a good approach, I'm prob encouraging it at the mo by giving it too much attention x
