11 month old baby refuses solids

I've been trying to wean her since 6 months and she has NEVER been interested in food. I repeatedly try everything...finger food, purees, eating with her, positive praise, sweet food etc etc. I've also cut her milk back as much as possible

Even when I can hear her tummy rumbling she is still not interested...clamps her lips shut, shakes her head, sometimes cries. I don't put any pressure on her but it's starting to worry me!!

I give her breakfast, lunch and dinner and all I can get her to eat each time is a baby yoghurt and a few baby crisps

I'd love to know if anyone has had this, and how / if it improves? Thank you!! X

I could have written this myself. My daughter is also 11 months and has very little interest in food at all. Unfortunately nobody will listen to me as she is still putting on weight just fine. She has 3x 7oz bottles in 24 hours but only takes about 6oz from each. She will eat grapes and occasionally a few pasta twists but that's about it. Like you we have tried absolutely everything.

I just hope she starts taking an interest soon.

I'm still at this stage and my DD s 2. It is utterly soul destroying, I don't know how she's alive some days.

Today she had small cup of milk at breakfast. Grapes mid morning. Nothing else.

She's never been interested in food. Is tiny for age.

Mine was the same. Still not much interest at 18months, but more than before. Mine wouldn't even eat the usual fussy baby staple of yoghurts!

Thanks for your replies. Gutting that it doesn't seem to suddenly get better but it's nice to know it's not just me or that I'm doing something wrong! Xx

Mine is the same! Some days she eats well, just to give me hope, and then she goes back to shaking her head, batting food away, and throwing food on the floor with a defiant stare. It's good to know others are having the same issues!

It's really difficult when they just refuse everything. Especially when you've gone to the effort of making something specially for them, and they either don't eat it or throw it on the floor. Is there any chance she could be teething? Mine are and were picky eaters when their teeth were coming through. My little boy (also 11 months) is getting his top teeth through now and won't have anything solid at all. Luckily, I was sent a good freebie of some baby food pouches by Heinz and they seem to be doing the trick. He'll take it off a spoon and at least I know he's getting some nutriton even if he refuses to do it at all himself.

Hang in there - have you been to see your health visitor? They'll say not to worry too much until she's 12 months and babies tend to self-regulate. Just keep offering her bits alongside the purees/yoghurt and hopefully she'll at least get a taste of something.

have you asked for help from the health visitor? I've had issues with my dd not sleeping - she prefers food over milk though and I'd at least review this with them at this point although it sounds as though you're doing everything right.

Hi I wonder if someone can help. Me. My daughter from 6 months has not eaten anything. She is 9 months and I struggle everyday with her, she jus locks her mouth shut. On good days I manage a few spoons. She drinks milk the same amount everyday. Please help. I've tried everything

Khushi, as I said to Op, go see your HV, this is the sort of thing they're supposed to help with - mine has a nursery nurse specialist attached to the HV practice that came out when I couldn't get DD to sleep in her cot at 8 months and she gave me a concrete plan that cracked it in 3 days. If my 9 mo DD was doing this I'd get referred to the nursery nurse attached to the HV. It sounds miserable so go get some help for yourselves. Good luck

My dd is now 6. She was incredibly uninterested in solids for the longest time! She was 2.5 when I finally got her on 3 meals a day. She now eats huge quantities but is quite reluctant to try new things. I wouldn't go as far to say she is super fussy as there is quite a variety she will eat but there is just as much variety she is adverse to. I think with her it is simply that she takes her time to adjust to new things food included. I wanted to give you all hope that babies like this can turn into eating children!!

I had a huge hungry Ds and when Dd came along I expected feeding her to be a breeze too. It wasn't. I gave up BF when she was 3 months because I couldn't get her feed often or more than 5 mins at a time and she was barely gaining weight. I moved her onto Bottles and she never took more than 3 ounces at one time. I tried weaning every few months from 4 months and she wouldn't swallow any solids till she was nearly 9 months and even then it was very little.

To reassure you - she's almost 17, tall smart, sporty and beautiful but naturally slim (5ft 7 and 8st) and she has just never needed lots of food. She knew what she doing.

Hi there. I'm still having difficulty with her. She's tiny doesn't eat anything. Sometimes she eat toast but that's it. She's nearly one and looks so small

Have you tried eating something in front of her, without sitting her in a high chair? My 12 month dd always wants what I'm eating!

Hi jw35 Yeh I've tried she has a few bites than stops. She eat for 1 week once and I cancelled her hospital appoinment thinking it was all behind me but this only lasted a week and now she's jus refuses. She's a year old and she's neve eaten a full meal. I've tried everything. Just really depressing and saddens me not knowing what's wrong

Kushy - what we did was cut her milk back to just 2 X 7oz bottles per day. And even if she wanted milk in the night we would just offer water. One bottle after lunch, one bottle before bed

At first things got much worse and she was only having 1 X bottle and 1 X yoghurt a day for about 6 days which was worrying, but then suddenly she has got an appetite and will eat pretty much anything! Such a breath of fresh air!

I was worried about reducing her milk as she rarely drinks water but the advise was that the milk would be enough to keep her hydrated

We also stopped feeding her in the high chair as I think this was putting too much pressure on her. Instead I just hold her on my hip and eat the purée with her. Lots of praise when she eats
