is this normal - obsessions!

Ok so this is probably normal but it's extreme and I'm not playing it up.

23 Month Old DS is OBSESSED with keys, handbags, purse & phones. Every single day, every single hour he wants the effing keys, phone, purse & handbag.

Not just mine but my DM & DF too (although DF doesn't have a man bag or purse )

If I hide them, he screams till he's sick where I've hidden them.

He NEVER plays with toys, at a push he will play with megabloks but for a short period.

It's becoming so exhausting and really fucking annoying as every minute of the day he wants my phone, my purse, my handbag & keys.

At home he just sits with them, clutching them like they are a lifeline.

If we're out, he will empty my bag, empty my purse & cling on to keys & phone.

This is sounding ridiculous me even typing it, but yesterday I spent the entire day saying no, and of course it has no effect!

I reckon he dreams about keys.

Is this normal? Is driving me insane

Ha ha.

Give his own set of old keys to play with etc.

Also, put your handbag away and out of reach. IMO children should never rummage through a handbag.

And also, what's wrong with him holding your keys?

Its probably because they're yours and he (possibly?) Gets a lot of attention from you when he does this?

I gave DS and old purse, hand bag, old loyalty cards and a blank set of keys in different colours from timpsons. He also had an old tv remote control to keep him away from the real thing. It kept him quiet and away from my real items.

I was away to suggest exactly what Lucifer said. It is a phase I'm sure if he has access to them all the time he will soon get over it!

It's annoying because he usually hides them somewhere.

Yes I agree that no kids should rummage through handbags, I have to tell anyone that comes in to either leave handbag in car or take out anything that is dangerous.

Tried the whole fake items, he realises they are not mine therefore redundant!

No, yii have to store them in your bag.

Train him to ask for them, and give him the fakes

We used to this with DS with car parking tickets. ( the Ines you out in the machine at the end)

We always used to give him an old one to "look after" - he was happy. We did the old switcheroo to pay etc :)

If you keep the spares in your hand bag, he will think they're yours :)

You can easily teach him to ask instead of just taking things :)
