Toddler won't wear coat

Today my toddler wouldn't wear her coat outside. She can undo it if I put it on as well. She's just turned two. What would you do would you just let her not wear it til she wants to because she's cold which didn't happen today or would you pretty much force it on her, which would involve keeping putting it on her against her will time and time again. If it wasn't this cold I wouldn't be so bothered

I'd let her not wear it. Put an extra layer on her - vest, or cardigan - and wait for her to complain she's cold. Though being cold in ever killed anyone unless we're talking hypothermia, which is unlikely in a quick trip to the shops or similar.

Others may disagree, but I would say pick your battles. When she is cold, she will wear it. It's not that cold yet.

Make sure that the coat is comfortable, not too small, and leave her be. Perhaps get a lightweight coat until it gets really cold?

My DD was and still is very much the same - she doesn't feel the cold!

My DD (nearly 4) refuses to wear coats or cardigans, she'll be walking around in a sleeveless dress while I have a jumper and coat on. I just stick it in my bag and I figure when she gets cold she'll ask for it back.

I don't think she does feel the cold (we also have a very cold house can't afford much heating so she's grown up used to it) I just literally can't believe she doesn't want it on today! I feel the cold sooo much. Also it just popped into my mind I don't want anyone to look and think I'm not looking after her right! Thank you for your replies x

I agree with the others. She's a toddler, so pick your battles. If she's really cold, she'll wear it.

My youngest DS was like this. Even now in his late teens he's the one in just a t-shirt when everyone else has a hoody on as well. Just doesn't seem to feel the cold.

Oh god thank you I was beginning to think I was being really mean by not forcing her in it!
