Cooing/making noises

Me again, sorry ive been looking at camcorder fortage of DD and im astounded at how little ds is doing in comparison.

DS is 17 weeks and doesnt make much noise[apart from crying] he makes the odd ah noise occasionally when putting something in his mouth but doesnt laugh, giggle or make any sort of cooing noises. He seems very very quiet and and apart from the ah doesnt make or say anything else.
Im a bit worried as DD was cooing, ohing, and arhiing by about 12 weeks old and seemed a chatterbox in comparison.
Dh has asked if something could be wrong with him. He has had a hearing test at 6 weeks which was fine and I know he hears noises. Am I worrying over nothing? whats the latest they should start 'talking'

kbaby · 01/12/2006 21:22

Kayzed- If you tickle him he smiles and opens his mouth as if hes going to laugh but doesnt make a sound and peekaboo he just smiles at

I was a bit worried before as when I take him to baby massage I noticed how much the other babies gurgled etc and these are younger or the same age as DS but Im even more worried now after seeing what DD was like.

Hi, my DD2 (20 weeks on Wednesday) has just found her voice in the last week-10 days.

Last night she woke at 3am just so she could 'sing'!

I would imagine your DS is just about on the verge of doing this ?

kbaby · 02/12/2006 20:32

krimbokrackerskayzed - I havent raised it yet, I have a feeling they would just fob me off with the line ' come back in a few months' I was going to wait until he was 20 weeks and then take him.
I am hoping he is just very slow at finding his voice but a little voice at the back of my head says could something be wrong

Kbaby - coming a bit late to this thread. DS is 18 weeks now. He's only just started laughing in the last few days. Before this he did exactly what you describe - opened his mouth to laugh but with no sound. He just doesn't get peekaboo yet - I like to think it's cos he knows I'm there and thinks I'm stupid!! I really wouldn't worry. DS also goes in fits and starts - a few days where he's really vocal and then several where he's very quiet. Could be that your DS is concentrating on developing other skills.

DD is 6 1/2months and has only properly giggled once, about two months ago. She seems to almost get so excited she can't get the sound out - bless!

In the past month or so she has become much more vocal in other ways - growling, which made DH worry she would grow up sounding like one of Marge Simpson's sisters, and the latest can only be described as a cross between whale sounds and the Clangers!

We've also noticed that she is a lot less vocal around other people - pretending to be shy maybe

So - what I'm trying to say, is try not to worry (easier said than done, I know). They all do diferent things at different times.

kbaby · 06/12/2006 11:35

its worrying as the latest he should be cooing is 4 months old and hes now 18 weeks, im panicking in case he never coos/talks
