meal time tantrums

Not sure if this is the right place (if not could someone please point me in the right direction).
My nearly 5year old son is a fussy eater at the best of times !

He would eat anything you put in front of him up until he was around 2 years old, then he went onto Heinz spaghetti hoops (had to be Heinz!) toast and cheese sandwiches! He started eating carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, pasta, tomato soup, chips (more ketchup than chips tbh!) and more recently mashed potato! He won't eat any meat or try anything other than the above.

This week had been a real struggle,
One round of toast for breakfast everyday, he has a packed lunch at school (cheese sandwich, 2 biscuits, an actimel and a packet of fruit stars). Tea times have been a nightmare! Monday he had one spoon of soup, Tuesday - 3 small slices of carrot, Wednesday-small amount of pasta, Thursday(a good day)- carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, mash. Choc cake as treat for eating all his tea, Friday-5chips, today-two spoons of spaghetti hoops!

He has major tantrums at tea time and I often end up putting him in his bedroom to calm down and stop hitting out at us.

Does anyone have any advice on how I can encourage him to eat and prevent the tantrums?

ANY help would be much appreciated as I feel he is not getting what he needs.
