Fountains!!

Seriously. is this some kind of bizarre developmental stage no-one's told me about? My 3 yr old has been obsessed with them for about half a year. Everywhere we go (e.g. park), he wants to see the fountain or water feature if there is one, stares at it for ages, complains if there isn't one. If given a paddling pool/ bath all he wants to do is design fountains (putting pourers and sieves on top of each other). I get that playing with water is fun, but he seems obsessed with fountains in particular. nb. he is a boy...is this all about willies really?! :)

If you have the time available, try to indulge his interest.

Our DS loved to watch streams and waterfalls (we were fortunate to have access to the countryside) and when he was older, and we were on holiday in The Lake District or Wales, damming streams, or sailing his little boat was a source of endless pleasure.

It may help develop a patient, sympathetic attitude to the natural world.

A A Milne invented the game of 'Poohsticks', in the 1920s, as children ALWAYS love water, and most children still play it today, if they get the chance.

Oh yes, it is a nice interest for him to have. I suppose I was just wondering if it presages a career as a hydraulic engineer (or whatever you call fountain-designers) :) - or if it's something lots of children are interested in. We are moving to a place with a very small garden and might try to get an equally small water feature if he is still interested...
