From cot to bed - how old?

I think theres been a thread like this recently but I couldn't find it. My DD1 is nearly 19ms old and DH and I are thinking of changing her cot into the bed over xmas. She loves lying in her sisters bed next to her when they are reading together so we think she may be ready for this step. She does roll around alot - you hear her crashing into the side of the cot at night so a guard will be needed. How old were yours when you converted?!

both dd's were about 22 months

both had bedguards

18mo. Got a bed with side rails. She fell out a couple of times but soon got used to it.

dd1 was 16 m
dd2 will be 23 m - we need cot for dd3 who is outgrowing moses basket

does she sleep well in cot?
can she climb out>

i wouldn't be in a hurry if she sleeps well and ins't making moves to climb out tbh!

dd was 21 months and ds was 2 years both used a bed guard had no problems just had ds2 9 weeks ago will do him round about the same age.

My DD has the pink version of this bed

Which she moved in to when she was 18 months old. So kind of a big bed - for little people, with rails that are cunning disguised as teddy's paws!

My DD was 18months. We moved house n it was easier to fit the cot into the attic rather than the single bed! So she went straight into a big girl bed with no problems! We didnt put a bed guard on n she has only fallen out once but that was onto the duvet we put on the floor to stop her hurting herself!

dd1 on a futon at 18 mo. dd2, still in a cotbed at 2y 4mo - mainly cos she loves her gro bag and i worry that she would trip over if she got out of bed wearing it.

DS was 22months, he went into a toddler bed that was quite low to the ground so we put his matress from the cot on the floor next to the bed. He also crashed about a lot in the cot and was waking himself up which was why we moved him. He fell out a couple of times until he got used to his new surroundings, but adapted very quickly! We now find him asleep with his feet on the floor where he's rolled himself so he's 90 degrees from where he should be!!

DS was 18 months...but he never slept in his cot, he co-slept until then. He had a rail around the bed but that came off after a few months once he was used to the bed. You should have no problems moving yours to a bed at christmas time!

at how early you lot do this whole bed thing!

I wanted mine to stay in a cot until they were 3 but DS1 and DD both climbed out, so went into a bed at just over 2 or 2 1/2 I think.

I plan to keep DS2 in a bed until he is 3 unless he is uncomfortable or starts climbing out.

Why do you put them in a bed so early? In a cot, they are pinned in

so what is the deciding factor for moving them, my dd is 17mths and she is still in her cot but does crash into the bars in her sleep sometimes waking her up and she is starting to try to climb out. She comes into our bed in the middle of the night but I do wonder if she would settle better in a proper bed

22 months for my DTs, a couple of nights of fidgeting from one of them but otherwise no wandering, they love their big girls' beds!

Dd is 19mts and have no intention of moving her until her gwobags (which prevent climbing brilliantly) get too small for her.
She flies around her cot doing handbrake turns and all sorts all night so am waitong as long as possible before I take the sides off.

just swapped my 2.2 year old dd cot for bed. falls out all the time and seems to prefer the floor to bed but not wandered anywhere as yet!All went smoothly and we just felt the time was right, waited until wee had a long stretch of being here ie no staying anywhere else and seems to have done the job. DD got new winnie blow up bed for birthday so will try that soon at grandmas!!

Dd was about 20 months as we did her bedroom up (she moved rooms) and never bothered to move her cot!
Ds was 15 months. He never slept well in a cot, too active and kept waking himself up as he banged himself on the bars. Had a bed guard of course, but sleep improved hugely.

maria montessori believed they should never have a cot.

me i moved ds1 at a year, ds2 at 15months (he was delayed because he was still waking 5 times night! he is much happier in a bed) and ds3 is only 10mo, but is going thru the night more or less now, so will be in a bed within a month or two.

they all have sides to stop them falling out. but they all have steps to enable them to get out if they want.

would you want to be imprisoned in your bed?

DD currently does 12hrs a night in her cotbed so I reckon no need to take the sides off yet.If she does wake in the night,I whisper "night night" over the monitor and 8 times out of 10 it works and she goes back off.....I do Know how lucky I am!
