are agressive tantrums normal in 2.5 yo ?

My 2.5 yo has started having really aggressive tantrums. He has always had tearful ilogical tantrums but this past week they have all ended up being very aggressive towards me & dad. He hits, kicks & throws himself at us with such hatred. It is really upsetting. If I know this is normal then I will feel a bit better. Just not sure how agressive tantrums usually get & how to deal with them

poppy my 2.4 DS has just having, well I wouldn't call them tantrums. They seem more just "angry". He hasn't hit at us (yet) but throws things across the room, then hits something, usually the floor or sofa. Throws himself on the floor and then hits it again while doing a sort of AHHHHHHHH. This is usually after something he is trying to do doesn't work, or I have told him "no" about something. Talking with some mums at school who have DS around 5, say it isn't unusual. If he isn't hurting anyone, I just ignore him. Once he hit at his sister, whereupon I removed him from the room, got down on his level, looked him in the eye and said very firmly "No!" then left him in the hallway. So far he hasn't done it again but ............

Hopefully someone with an older DS will come along as say it is normal -- and some tactics!

Every child is different. You must gently and firmly tell him that his behaviour is unacceptable. Try to 'discuss' issues with him - give him choices that he can understand.
Try to be as calm as possible. Some 2 year olds are revolting - it's a fact of life. You'll go through hell when he starts school, too, so start laying down stores of booze now!
