My 2 week old DS is doing ok with sleeping at night - waking 2 or thre times max, between 7 at night when i put him down and 7 in the morning then he is ready to get up - but then he wont sleep at all between 7am when he gets up and about 4 in the afternoon - seems to get wind in the day time but not at night and screams every time I put him down - he just gripes all time he is awake. or goes to sleepf or about ten mins then starts screaming again til I pick him up. is this normal? any tips v welcome!! have been grying some infacol for the wind whcih seems to help a bit.

in a word, yes. almost impossible to establish any kind of sleep routine until they're at least 3 months old.

2 wk old is really young to be sleeping separate from you. i'm not surprised he wants to be picked up all the time. that's totally normal.

you're doing really well to have him only waking 2-3 times in the night. plus getting him to go down at 7pm is AMAZING. my DS woke every 2 hours through the night for AGES. and he wouldn't sleep separate from me so I had to co-sleep (not a problem, but there you go...)

if you're fed up carrying him about during the day, have you tried a sling?

Also VERY impressed at 7pm bedtime, well done!

Does he like the pram? Maybe a bit of fresh air and a walk would relax him? Both my DSs napped well in the pram during the day but were useless in the cot.

thanks for that - spot the fist time mum here! tis all so new, so hard to know what is normal! have sling thing which he's happy with for a walk in the day -0 but not happy for too long. jsut feel so awful to hear him scream and scream in day and not seem to be able to help - all sings suggest its wind when he does it - but seems v hard to get any wind up

You could try swaddling him when you want him to sleep during the day perhaps, some babies like the security of it? Alternatively there are many, many mothers out there who dress their babies warmly, bung them in a pram and take them for long walks (not sure whether this means that your baby goes on to expect motion before he'll go to sleep though). Whatever the answer, hopefully it's just a phase that he'll grow out of soon so hang in there.

Dd was just like that, slept well at night, but not in day. Was tearing my hair out, until I got hold of "The Baby Whisperer". It sorted dd in 3 days.

Didn't really follow routines, but tips on patting, shushing, swaddling were really invaluable.

Dd is 5 months old now and sleeps really well during day.
