FF newborn going hours without a feed: worry or be happy?!?

Ds2 is almost 3 weeks old and exclusively FF.

He was 9lb4oz at birth and didn't lose any birth weight in the first couple of weeks.

I am trying to feed him on demand, rather than to any set schedule. The thing is: he seems to only really want a bottle every 4-5 hours. Sometimes 6 overnight. Then he guzzles 5oz.

He is wetting nappies and pooing a few times a day. Should I just trust that he is getting what he needs? I have tried feeding him every 3 hours and he is just not interested.

This is a very different experience to ds1 who cried all the time and fed very erratically.

Mine was like that although breastfed. Tried waking him up every 3 hours and he just wasnt interested. He wanted feeding every 4-5 hours in the day and up to 6 hours overnight. He is 6 weeks today and growing nicely so have become more relaxed about it.

Mine was 11lb2 at birth so I assumed his tummy was a bit larger so could take more at a time - yours is a good size too. How big was your first?

Cant comment about volumes of feeds though as obviously I cant measure how much mine has. Does he still seem hungry after 5oz?

A baby of his size and age should be having around 20 oz of milk over 24hrs your lo seems to want fewer bigger feeds that seems perfectly fine to me. He's putting on weight and having lots of wet and dirty nappies so this seems to suit him.

Agree with others. Before 6 months they should have roughly 2.5 floz of first stage milk for every pound of weight, so as long as he's getting that, there's no need to worry

Thanks all! He fed at 10pm, 3am and 6.15am last night which feels blissful for a newborn!

4-5oz bottles every time (and lots of feeds during th day) so am gonna leave him to it!
