DD, 3.10, seems very paranoid...

DD has been a bit anxious lately as we've (finally!) stopped using nappies for pooing, but she's found it all quite stressful. She seems to be starting to relax more but the bit that DH and I are struggling with is how upset she gets when she thinks that someone is laughing at her or criticising her. Usually they are not laughing at her, and they're not being critical as much as just asking her politely to modify her behaviour (e.g. "please could you sit down on the sofa?"). She gets very upset, and it doesn't feel like an angry "I want to get my way!" tantrum (which we obviously have too). I'm sure it's a phase that she'll get through, but I would really welcome some ideas of coping strategies or how to help her build confidence to get over it faster.
Thanks for your help!

My dd absolutely hates this, too-of course, when people are laughing and she screams and you explain it is because they are laughing, this often unfortunately provokes another round of laughing, making it worse!! We just have to reassure dd they aren't laughing at her and try to convince her if us a good thing to be funny and to make people laugh. It's getting easier ad she gets older and understands more humour and jokes, so can laugh along more.
